With the conclusion of the 2017 ISCA Nation Field Trial, I am able to reflect upon what an amazing year it was for me,
The Derby Classic was judges by Jerry Oswalt and Ray Nowell. "Sheldon" aka Quantonas Bazinga managed to pick up a 3rd place, following behind two very nice young dogs. The National Championship was judged by Jim Yates and Kent Patterson. Reason ran in the 9th brace which put her on course 3in the morning. Reason had 2 finds, one on the left side between a mowed strip and the woods, just past Mario's Hill. My scout, Trena Cardwell, called point, and I rode back with the judge to find her standing. Birds were likely running and after some flushing attempt in the woods, we heard two flushes, but did not see birds fly. The judge had me blank my gun. After watering, I released Reason and she wasn't seen again until she was found on point in a strip of sorghrum, just prior to the viewing station field. as I went in to flush, Reason stood tall, and a very large covey got up all around her. I fired, and a few late risers got up. I collected her, watered, and finished the brace. Reason had beautiful manners and style, but lacked maturity in her race. This run earned her a third place in the championship. The futurity was the final stake that my dogs earned placements in. The futurity is a breeders stake, and I managed to be lucky enough to have dogs from my 2014 Blick x Sister litter take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd! Congrats to owner Jim house, and Handler Greg Dixon on Roy's 1st place! Cooler and Trena took second, and I earned 3rd with Reason. Congrats to co-breeders Susan Russell and Simon Phillips! This year does nothing more than set my sights on the future, as our dogs continue to mature. Cheers!
